
Knights of Columbus Council 9458 Meeting Minutes for September 6th , 2011
For the good of the Order, brother Jack Roberts began speaking about the three upcoming Arch Angel feast days as well as the Rites of the Catholic Church. He elaborated on some of the Rites which have changed or occurred throughout the times and explained the reasons for those changes.

The Grand Knight called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM, leading the Council in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. The Opening Ode was dispensed with.
Minutes from the Preceding Meeting:
Minutes were read with one minor change by Brother Dan Smith. The change was to add Richard Dyke as a co-winner for Augusts Knight of the Month.
Admissions and Applications for New Members:
Brother Rick Pfohl stated there were no new admissions or applications at this time. He did state there was a 2nd Degree to be conducted the 15th of October 2011 in Warner Robins and a 3rd Degree 22nd October 2011 in Conyers Ga. for those who wants to attend or attain the degrees so indicated.
Grand Knights Report:
Grand Knight, John Geist, re-emphasized his vision for the coming year, “Service with a Smile”. He also re-stated his Business meeting targets for the upcoming year.

Treasurers Report:
Treasurer Dick Sands read and submitted the treasurers report for 1 August through-31 August 2011. He stated he had two receipts issued for $78.50, four Vouchers/Warrants for $305.62 and had withdrawn $150.00 for the yard sale which will be re-deposited on or about 6 September 2011. Motion to accept the treasurers report was made, and carried.
Bills/Invoices read and Referred:
No bills or invoices were presented.
Communications Read:
Grand Knight, John Geist, provided three letters he had received for the Council to review. Two of the letters were “Thank You” letters Thanking the Knights of Columbus for the award of scholarship money. One letter was from Josh Harmon and one from Mary Layfield for her Grandson.
The Grand Knight also presented a letter from the 1st United Methodist Church requesting support for their upcoming September 11th 2011 Ceremony.
Financial Secretary’s Report:
Brother Bob Pratt stated he was still cleaning up the membership list with eight resigned members and three new Insurance members. He did state there were still thirteen questionable on his renewal list.
Trustees Report:
Brother Tom O’Neill stated the audit was completed on time as required.
Vocations:
There were no Vocations.
Service Committee Report:
Brother Rick Pfohl urged the council to continue pursuing new members at all times. He also stated it’s time to start the new recruitment of prospective candidates at weekend Masses.
Standing Committees Report:
Brother Dan Smith urged everyone to continue their support of our Pro-Life effort. In addition, he spoke about the upcoming dinner 20 October 2011 to help in our support of the Cross Roads Pregnancy Center. He has reserved eight tables and has tickets available for purchase and encouraged everyone to purchase a ticket for this most important fund raising event.
Unfinished Business:
Grand Knight John Geist revisited the Food for the Poor donation request received the previous month. After a short discussion, Brother Dan Smith made a motion that monies go to the local community. Motion was seconded by Jack Robertson. Motion so carried.
Brother Tom O’Neill stated there will be a 4th degree ceremony on12 November 2011 in Lilburn, Georgia. Candidates who wish to attend are able to get a Hotel discount if they plan on attending and spending the night. More information will follow as it becomes available.

District Deputy Report:
District Deputy Jerry Fanell stated it was a real pleasure for him to be able to visit our Council and participate in our meeting. He further spoke on how important attending the 4th Degree Ceremony and how worthwhile this event is and will continue to be.
District Deputy Farnell stated the first order of business was to present the 2010-2011 Columbian Award our past Grand Knight, Dan Smith, for his outstanding service and commitment during his tenure.
District Deputy Farnell stated all Councils needed to purge and clean up their membership files, although this may be difficult , it must be done. He highly encouraged this be done as soon as possible.
District Deputy Farnell spoke briefly about Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, and his opening remarks theme in Denver Colorado and the efforts to Evangelize Pope John Paul the 2nd. “So The World May Know New Hope.
District Deputy Farnell also we continue to need a new stream of members and needed to have a recruitment drive by 30 September 2011 to meet goals established.
District Deputy Farnell stated there was a Prayer Breakfast to be held in Roswell Ga. On 27 October 2011. The Honor Guard is to be present and the price is $20.00 per ticket. Proceeds will be used to purchase MP-3 Players for our Military Troops. A goal of 10 tickets per council be purchased.
District Deputy Farnell spoke briefly about the State Convention in April, and a Raffle whereby any amount of tickets sold above $250.00 will be divided 50% with the Councils, thus, the more tickets sold the more your Council can collect.
District Deputy Farnell concluded with the re-emphasizing of updating the Councils data, especially with the 1st and 2nd degrees.
Brother Rick Pfohl ask District Deputy Farnell if the responsibility for providing updated data for individual degrees was the responsibility of the host Council who performed the degrees was accurate? He stated this was accurate, however; not all Councils were doing this, thus the requirement for purging and updating the files.
Brother Bob Pratt asked if we would be getting a new District Directory this year, whereby District Deputy Farnell responded we would receive one.
New Business:
Brother Tome O’Neill stated it is time for the “PWID” drive commonly known as the “Tootsie Roll Drive”. He is asking for volunteers and has a sign up sheet available immediately after the conclusion of the meeting.
Brother Rick Pfohl stated Council Members needs to encourage new prospective members to join the Knights and keep in mind the membership blitz is ongoing
Deputy Grand Knight Dick McCoy thanked everyone for their help with making the Yard Sale a success. He stated everyone gave more then a 110% and he really appreciated everyone’s effort.
Dick also informed everyone the Blood Drive is soon approaching and more information will be forthcoming.
Brother Joe Kumph stated two dates are possible for the shooting range one being October 8th and the other possibility being November 5th.
Joe briefly talked about the Wilkerson County Catholic Cemetery that had sustained damage . He stated some of the damage had already been taken care of by other members of the community.
Brother Dick Sands provided an update on the quilts and the raffle for a quilt to be given away 20 November 2011. He stated he would be available immediately after the meeting and had a raffle ticket for purchase for everyone.
Under the Good the Order:
Grand Knight John Geist presented the “Family of Month” award to Jo-Ann and J.J. McClure and the“Knight of the Month” award to all Knights of the Order for their superb work provided by all Council members. Congrats.
Report on the Sick and Distressed:
Prayers were requested for Kevin Yorks wife, Charotte of Greensboro, who has severe leg pain and problems and all the sick of the Parish.

The Grand Knight led the council in prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
